Topic:

1. Particle acceleration and simulations
2. Plasmas physics and radiation physics
3. Ultrashort high-power laser technology
4. Conventional particle accelerators and synchrotron radiation

Background:

The 5th ASS&S will be hold at Shanghai Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics (SIOM), CAS, Shanghai, China from Aug. 16 through 20, 2010 to promote the research activities in the field of laser-plasma acceleration and radiation, which will provide an excellent opportunity for graduate students, post-docs and fresh researchers in Asian countries to learn and communicate. Same as the 4th ASS&S, the 5th ASS&S is divided into to three parts, the summer school, symposium, and a tour. There will be about 15 one-hour lectures during the 3-day summer school and about 10 invited talks during the one day symposium. SIOM is located in Jiading, a small city which is about 30 km away from the center of Shanghai. During the 5th ASS&S, you are also welcome to visit EXPO2010 which is hold in Shanghai from May to October 2010.

Attention(new)

Important Note:

Because the meeting room at SIOM is not available in August, we move the conference site to Blue Palace Hotel which is a 4 star hotel 4 km away from SIOM.

We have reserved enough rooms there and recommend all the attendees to stay there. There are two kinds of rooms, 600 RMB a day and 300 RMB a day which are the special price for attendees. Students may share a room with your friends or we help you find a roommate. We will be there on August 15.

About Shanghai

Brief Introduction to Shanghai

Shanghai, the world-known metropolis, is located in the middle of the coast of the Chinese mainland, faces the Pacific Ocean and bisected by the Huangpu Rive.
A large number of architecturally distinctive, high-rise skyscrapers have sprung up throughout Shanghai. Notable examples of contemporary architecture include the Oriental TV Tower and the 88-storey Jinmao Building.
As the largest and most prosperous city in China, it is widely regarded as China's modern economic, cultural, commercial, financial, industrial and communication centers.

Scientific Development

Shanghai is home to many of China's top and oldest institutes and universities, such as Shanghai institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Fudan University and other key research institutions.
Shanghai pays more attention on scientific development such as opto-electronic research, medicine, literature, art and life science, etc.
The number of scientific and technological workers has seen steady growth in Shanghai. The city enjoys increasing technological achievements every year.

Transportation

Shanghai has a convenient transportation network leading to other parts of the country.
The railways, highways, ports and airports of Shanghai connect it with different countries and regions in the world.
It is very convenient to reach the conference site. You can arrive by train, maglev, metro, taxi and shuttle buses, etc.

Cuisine

Shanghai is well-known for cooking different style dishes, such as Shanghai,Beijing, Guangdong, and other Chinese style.
There are also many Western-style restaurants to serve Pizza, steak, Barbecue and other western dishes.
The restaurants make Shanghai an ideal "gourmet kingdom”. It is a "Grand View Garden" for dinners of all tastes.

Tour

Shanghai is a fascinating metropolis for tourists from both home and abroad. The scenic spots in Shanghai are really too many for the eye to take in.
Built in different periods of time and in various architectural styles of the world, the grand complex of high-rise buildings is reputed as "the International Fair of World Architecture".
The Bund, Yu Garden, the Stone-gate buildings, the different kinds of Shanghai style constructions, the modern installations, ancient and modern, are more attractive to tourists.
We are looking forward to seeing you in Shanghai, 2010.
