Abstract
The principle, structure, characteristics and applications of semiconductor saturable absorber mirror (SESAM) mode-locked optically pumped vertical external cavity surface emitting semiconductor lasers(OP-VECSELs) were introduced. The major problems of designing SESM mode-locked OP-VECSELs, the progress of research and the trend of development were also summarized.
