All-Optical Bistability in Grating Coupling to Nonlinear Waveguide

Abstract
The nonlinear waveguide with single mode was fabricated by potassium-ion-exchange in semiconductor-doped glass and the grating coupler of the nonlinear waveguide was made using ion-etch processes masked by photoresist. A mode locked double frequency Nd:YAG laser of 532 nm, with 180 ps pulse width, was used to measure characteristics of grating coupling beam into nonlinear planar waveguide. All optical bistable switch with picosecond rise and fall time was observed in the power dependent grating coupling experiment.
