Abstract
A Q-switched xenon flashlamp pumped Nd:YAG laser using saturable excited state absorption of Cr~4+:YAG is proposed and performed for the first time In our experiments, the pulse width was shorted 2- times, compared with those in normal case The shortest FWHM pulse width of 8ns was obtained An increase in transmission of the Cr~4+:YAG with saturable effect of excited state absorption was discovered.
