Laser Cooling and Trapping of Sodium Atoms in Magneto-optical Trap
摘要
Abstract
We describe observations of Sodium atoms trapal in magneto-optical trap. The trapping and cooling forces were provided by six circularly polarized laser beams along orthogonal axes intersecting at the point where the magnetic field was zero and increased linearly in all directions. The setup was different from thais previously reported because two dye lasers were used and the re-pumping light was arranged with six laser beams. The trapping was very robust and not strict to densities of laser beams, imbalance of densities, circular polarization, magnetic field and remperature of vacuum chamber ect. The trapped atoms were compacted into a small region, the diameter measured by CCD camera was about 1.5~2 mm. The influence of re-pumping light on trapping was experimentally studied at different light intensities by using PMT and digital storage oscilloscope.
