Reshaping Gaussian Beams to Uniform Profiles by an Optical System Composed of Two Spherically Aberrated Lenses

Abstract

It was shown that a lens with negative spherical aberration (SA) is a simple optical device for shaping Gaussian beams to uniform profiles. However the coefficient of the negative SA of a single lens is too small to convert the Gaussian beams to the desired uniform profiles. An optical system that is composed of two lenses with SA is proposed to increase the negative SA, so that the desired uniform profiles can be achieved. The experimental results confirm this proposal.
