具有特效导波模式的左手材料波导设计

摘要
通过转移矩阵方法理论,研究含左手材料平板波导导波模式与表面波的特性,结果表明: 在TE极化情况下,当包裹层为金属-芯层为左手材料的三层平板波导满足波导导行条件时,导波层能承载新功能的导波模式,即不存在TE0模; 在特殊条件下存在TE1模,而且这导波模式与电磁波频率、材料的介电常数和磁导率密切相关; 当不满足波导导行条件时,三层平板波导的三个区域出现不同指数规律衰减的表面波,当导波系数与导波层厚度的乘积为2.1π时,不同模式的表面波将趋向一致。模系数m的奇偶性对导波模式和表面波的能流分布有着显著的影响。利用包裹层为金属-芯层为左手材料三层平板波导的导波模式、表面波和能流分布的奇异特性,可以实现特效导波模式的波导器件,为波导实际设计和应用提供了理论参考。
Abstract
The properties of the wave guided mode of the left-handed material slab waveguides as well as the surface waves are studied by means of the methods and theories of transition matrix. It is experimentally proved that under the condition of TE polarization, when the three-layer slab waveguide with metal as the covering layer and the left-handed materials as the core layer meets the conditions of waveguide traveling, the guided layer can bear the wave guided mode with new functions.That is to say thatthere is no TE0 mode, and the TE1 mode only exists in some special conditions and besides, this kind of wave guided mode is closely related to the electromagnetic wave frequency, the material permittivity and permeability; when not meeting the conditions of waveguide traveling, the surface waves with different exponential law attenuation appear in the three regions of the three-layer slab waveguide; when the product of the wave guided coefficient and the thickness of the guided layer reaching 2.1π, the surface waves in different modes will tend to be consistent, and the parity of mode coefficient m plays a remarkable role in wave guided modes and the energy flux distribution of surface waves. By the strange properties of the wave guided mode of the three-layer slab waveguide with metal as the covering layer and the left-handed materials as the core layer, the surface waves as well as the energy flux distribution, the waveguide devices with wave guided mode of special effects can be realized and thus theoretical guidance for the actual design and application of the waveguides is provided.
