高功率激光技术专家。1942年6月3日生于北京市,原籍广东潮阳。1964年毕业于中国科技大学无线电系,后在中国科学院研究生院读研究生。现任中科院上海光机所研究员、高功率激光物理国家实验室总师。2003年当选为中国科学院院士。
从事激光惯性约束核聚变、高功率激光驱动器和X光激光研究等。研究高功率激光空间传输的基本物理问题,在神光Ⅱ激光装置研制中创新解决了同轴双程主激光放大器的新型空间滤波技术、全激光系统像传递技术、新型三倍频模拟光技术、三倍频稳定高效转换系列技术、神光Ⅱ高效全光路系统自动准直技术等难题,推动了激光驱动器研究能力的质的跨跃。完成神光Ⅱ激光功率平衡、精密瞄准、远场焦斑旁瓣分布研究等多项装置精密化工作。研究激光在高密度等离子体冕区传播的多种非线性相互作用过程,发现若干重要新现象。
