基于铯原子6S1/2-6P3/2-6D5/2(852 nm+917 nm)阶梯型能级结构,以波长为852 nm圆偏振光作为泵浦光,将原子由基态6S1/2布居到中间激发态6P3/2,并将原子介质极化。波长为917 nm线偏振光作为信号光通过极化的原子介质后,其偏振面发生了旋转,从而实现了工作波长为917 nm非线性光学滤波器。实验上详细测量、分析了泵浦光功率、原子气室温度,以及泵浦光与信号光同、反向实验构型对该非线性光学滤波器性能的影响,在优化的实验参数下,该滤波器的峰值透射率可达20%,等效噪声带宽<60 MHz。超窄带宽的光学滤波器在原子钟、自由空间光通信、激光遥感系统等领域具有潜在的应用价值。

基于铯原子6S1/2-6P3/2跃迁线,在商用型空心阴极灯中,实现了工作波长为852 nm的法拉第反常色散原子滤光器(FADOF):当铯空心阴极灯工作电流在 1~4 mA范围内时,可获得单峰、共振的线芯式FADOF;当铯空心阴极灯工作电流在 6~10 mA范围内时,可获得线翼式FADOF。实验上系统测量了工作电流、轴向磁场强度、信号光功率对FADOF性能的影响,优化参数下该滤光器的透射率高达77%。

Utilizing polarization maintaining photonic crystal fiber (PM-PCF) with the low temperature coefficient of birefringence, a two-dimensional tunable and temperature-insensitive Lyot filter aiming to compensate the frequency modulation to amplitude modulation (FM-to-AM) conversion in high power laser facility is demonstrated. The Jones matrix is applied to analyze the relationship between optical characteristics of the filter and physical parameters (including amplitude ratio, phase delay, and susceptibility of the birefringence to temperature) of the polarization optical field. Both the transmission peak wavelength and extinction ratio of the spectral transmission are able to be changed simultaneously, hence, it shows more efficient FM-to-AM compensation ability. Besides, the transmission peak shift is about 18 pm/℃ with the PM-PCF configuration, which is about two orders of magnitude less than the normal polarization maintaining fiber (PMF) configuration. The demonstrated filter presents a practical application potential in large scale laser driven facility.

Purpose: To evaluate the potential clinical usability of a new prototype of ophthalmic blue light filters developed by using electrochromic technology in pseudophakic patients complaining of glare. Methods: A prototype of electrochromic device was developed, with a specific frame that enclosed an electronic driver that allowed personalizing its function for each patient. A pro-spective, observational case series study was performed to test it. Five patients who had un-dergone cataract surgery with clear intraocular lenses and complaining of glare were included in the study. Main outcome measures were the results obtained in the satisfaction questionnaire that was delivered to patients. Then, visual acuity, contrast sensitivity, and reading ability data were evaluated with and without the prototype under different lighting conditions and different modes of the prototype after a complete month of use. Lens transmittance was also measured. Results: Visual acuity, contrast sensitivity and reading function did not change significantly with prototype use. The main activity for which the prototype was used was walking. Only one patient found that the dimming level was insufficient. No patients reported variable discomfort when passing tunnels, not sufficiently clear indoors, or put on and remove discomfort. The lenses slightly decreased their transmittance at the end of the study. Conclusion: Glasses based on electrochromic technology may be acceptable for outdoor/indoor use and for distance–near vision. Future studies with larger samples must be conducted to confirm the clinical usability of these glasses.

理论计算了Ni、Cr和Ni80Cr20三种材料的光学特性,确定了镍铬成份变化对Ni80Cr20的影响。在高低两个真空度条件下采用电子枪蒸发工艺进行了Ni80Cr20的镀膜实验,结果表明,低真空度时“薄”膜的中性度较好,而高真空度时“厚”膜中性度较好。采用X射线能谱分析发现“薄”膜铬含量高于膜料,而“厚”膜更高,高真空度薄膜略有氧化,而低真空度氧化更严重。从残余气体和蒸发方式方面分析了镍铬成份差异的原因,再结合氧化对薄膜特性的影响,确定了不同真空度薄膜中性度差异的原因。

设计了一种基于铌酸锂晶体的电控可调谐波导光栅双波长滤波器。在可同时传输横电波(TE)和横磁波(TM)模式的钛扩散波导上刻写布拉格光栅,能够实现正交偏振的双波长滤波。利用铌酸锂的电光效应改变波导的有效折射率,可以实现两个布拉格波长的快速调谐。对波导光栅滤波性能的分析结果表明,蚀刻光栅在蚀刻坡度小于15°,蚀刻占空比为1/2 时,滤波特性最好,且随着蚀刻深度的增加,光栅的反射率与带宽均增加。通过横向电场对波导光栅进行调谐,双波长滤波器的TE 模式调谐灵敏度达到15.6 pm/V,TM 模式的达到5.5 pm/V。

为了解决基于光纤布喇格光栅和压电陶瓷结构的任意光脉冲整形器在动态调谐时存在不足的问题, 提出并设计了一种波长、相位、幅度参量独立可调的Bragg波导光栅滤波器, 以实现谐振波长及谐振波相位快速独立的线性调控.理论分析表明: 波长和相位的理论调谐效率分别为15.6 pm/V和0.2π/V, 滤波器的输出光强度可以通过偏振旋转器控制.基于转移矩阵理论的仿真分析发现: 该滤波器在蚀刻占空比为1/2时反射率最大, 光栅长度为10.869 mm, 蚀刻深度大于100 nm时, 可以获得98.4%以上的反射率和大于0.14 nm的带宽;增大波长调谐电压会进一步降低滤波带宽.

中性度是表征中性密度滤光片中性程度的一项重要指标,为了对中性度进行评价,通过分析和总结现有工程中的一些关于中性程度的表述,并结合密度滤光片的测试光谱曲线,总结出了光密度曲线的归一化比较方法。为进一步对中性度进行量化,提出了标准中性度的定义,并给出了中性度的具体算法。该算法简单、易行、直观,便于实施推广。经过该方法量化后的中性度指标不仅可用于标注标准密度滤光片产品的中性程度,也可用于非标产品中性程度评价和约束。

The author’s research activities undertaken at the Applied Optics Group, the University of Kent at Canterbury are reviewed, during his time there from 1988-1992 and 1994-1996, followed by a summary of recent research. The areas of interest are high finesse ring resonators, tunable optical filters, novel optical fiber grating sensors in glass and polymer, femtosecond laser inscription and micromachining, environmental pollution monitoring, hydrogen activated Pd films on silicon and impurity measurement on silicon wafers.

理论和实验研究了基于光纤中自相位调制效应和偏移滤波的全光2R再生,实现了因放大的自发辐射噪音而恶化的数据信号的再生.数值研究了输入平均功率对信号再生的影响,结果表明,通过控制输入光纤的平均功率,Q值在5到12的40 Gb/s归零码信号再生后均可实现Q值和幅度抖动的改善.最后进行了基于高非线性色散位移光纤的10 Gb/s归零码ASE恶化数据信号的再生实验,误码率为10-9时标准时的再生功率代价仅为0.1 dB.
