针对超奈奎斯特系统引入的码间干扰使载波相位估计难度增大的问题,提出了一种二阶电域导频辅助载波相位估计方案,将导频辅助相位噪声补偿模块与基于Viterbi的最大似然相位估计模块级联,牺牲约1.7% 的带宽开销,可以有效克服超奈奎斯特系统引入的码间干扰,对激光器线宽导致的相位噪声进行准确估计。在调制格式为16进制正交幅度调制的超奈奎斯特系统中,经仿真验证可知:该算法在加速因子不超过Mazo极限时可以有效跟踪相位噪声;在加速因子低至0.833、误码率为2×10-2、光信噪比代价为1 dB的条件下,该算法能容忍的最大线宽乘积为5×10-4;相较于一阶导频辅助载波相位恢复算法,该算法具有更大的线宽容忍度,所需的光信噪比也更小。

多脉冲位置调制联合正交相移键控(MPPM-QPSK)在接收机灵敏度方面具有明显优势,均衡算法可以有效优化数字相干光通信系统中信号带宽受限和码间串扰带来的影响,提高信号的传输质量。针对恒模算法仅能优化MPPM-QPSK中QPSK部分的问题,对两模均衡算法的内圈参考模值进行改进,提出了一种内圈模值不为0的两模均衡算法。将该算法应用到10 Gbit/s单载波高斯成形和Nyquist成形的MPPM-QPSK相干光通信系统中,并对其内圈模值、抽头数和步长等参数进行优化。实验结果表明,相比使用传统两模算法的系统,本系统的接收机灵敏度优化了约0.1 dB。当脉冲数m=2,4,8,16时,相比不加均衡算法的系统,本系统的接收机灵敏度分别优化了0.9 dB,0.6 dB,0.5 dB,0.4 dB。

分析时钟恢复算法中环路滤波器比例增益系数对系统误码率的影响时发现,信号的误码率随比例增益系数的增大呈先减小后增大的变化趋势,且不同接收光功率下的最优比例增益系数不同。针对该问题,提出并实现了一种基于Gardner算法的全实时化动态比例增益系数全数字时钟恢复算法,以应对功率抖动信道并提高算法的灵敏度。此外,在基于Altera Stratix-V 5SGXMA7K2F40C3 FPGA平台的2.5 GBaud正交相移键控调制相干通信系统中对该算法进行了在线实验验证。以KP4中的前向纠错码门限2×10 -4为上限,当功率抖动频率较慢时,动态参数法能将系统到达该误码门限的最低接收光功率由固定参数法的-47 dBm降低至-49.5 dBm;当功率抖动频率较快时,固定参数法能承受最低功率为-46.5 dBm、抖动频率为100 Hz的抖动,而动态参数法能承受最低功率为-50 dBm、抖动频率为1 kHz的抖动。

针对目前相干光通信正交相移键控(QPSK)系统载波相位恢复算法的两种实现方式——基于复数运算和基于角度运算,就基于复数运算的Viterbi-Viterbi相位估计(VVPE)算法和基于角度运算的重心相位估计(BCPE)算法的恢复性能和硬件实现复杂度两个方面进行分析和对比。仿真证明VVPE算法比BCPE算法对抗加性噪声的能力更强,产生周期滑动的概率更低,两种算法在无周期滑动时性能接近。进行了速率为2.5 GBaud(符号率线宽积4×10 -5)和10 GBaud(符号率线宽积1×10 -5)的QPSK相干接收实验,采用Matlab离线和Verilog离线方式,对两种算法的性能进行了验证。结果表明:对于2.5 GBaud的QPSK信号,优化均值滤波器长度后,两种算法的接收灵敏度均为-52 dBm@1×10 -3,VVPE算法和BCPE算法分别在接收功率为-54 dBm和-53 dBm时产生周期滑动;对于10 GBaud的QPSK信号,优化均值滤波器长度后,两种算法的接收灵敏度均为-47 dBm@1×10 -3,BCPE算法在接收功率为-52 dBm时产生周期滑动。基于Xilinx公司的Virtex Ultrascale+系列现场可编程门阵列(FPGA)开发平台,对系统速率为10 GBaud、并行路数为64的两种算法进行了对比,结果表明VVPE算法在输入信号位数为8、BCPE算法在输入信号位数为16时,接收灵敏度均为-51 dBm@2×10 -2,BCPE算法相对于VVPE算法,硬件查找表资源占用量降低了约5.78%。

回顾总结了各种线宽检测方法,介绍了这些方法的发展过程、原理和所需的实验器材。根据原理的不同,将线宽测量方法分成了基于信号功率谱和基于相位噪声两大类,分析了各种方法中线宽测量精度的限制因素,总结了各种方法在操作时的注意事项,对这些方法的优缺点和对应检测范围进行了全面梳理。根据不同激光器的性能参数和实验条件,推荐了合适的线宽检测方法。最后,在实际应用方面,针对可应用于窄线宽可调谐激光器(广泛应用于相干通信)的线宽测量方法,进行了较为详细的分析与讨论。

We propose and demonstrate a novel scheme of semi-open-loop polarization control (SOL-PC), which controls the state of polarization (SOP) with high accuracy and uniform high speed. For any desired SOP, we first adjust the initial SOP using open-loop control (OLC) based on the matrix model of a three-unit piezoelectric polarization controller, and quickly move it close to the objective one. Then closed-loop control (CLC) is performed to reduce the error and reach precisely the desired SOP. The response time is three orders faster than that of the present closed-loop polarization control, while the average deviation is on par with it. Finally, the SOL-PC system is successfully applied to realize the suppression of the polarization mode dispersion (PMD) effect and reduce the first-order PMD to near zero. Due to its perfect performance, the SOL-PC energizes the present polarization control to pursue an ideal product that can meet the future requirements in ultrafast optical transmission and quantum communication.

A polarization-diversity loop with a silicon waveguide with a lateral p-i-n diode as a nonlinear medium is used to realize polarization insensitive four-wave mixing. Wavelength conversion of seven dual-polarization 16-quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) signals at 16 GBd is demonstrated with an optical signal-to-noise ratio penalty below 0.7 dB. High-quality converted signals are generated thanks to the low polarization dependence (≤0.5 dB) and the high conversion efficiency (CE) achievable. The strong Kerr nonlinearity in silicon and the decrease of detrimental free-carrier absorption due to the reverse-biased p-i-n diode are key in ensuring the high CE levels.

The average bit-error-rate (BER) performance is studied for a coherent free-space optical communication system employing differentially encoded quadrature phase-shift keying (QPSK) with the Mth-power phase estimation method. A closed-form expression, considering the combined effects of the Málaga (M) turbulence fading, pointing errors, and phase estimation errors, is derived in terms of Meijer’s G function. Numerical and Monte Carlo simulation results are presented to verify the derived expression.

A flexible polarization demultiplexing method based on an adaptive Kalman filter (AKF) is proposed in which the process noise covariance has been estimated adaptively. The proposed method may significantly improve the adaptive capability of an extended Kalman filter (EKF) by adaptively estimating the unknown process noise covariance. Compared to the conventional EKF, the proposed method can avoid the tedious and time consuming parameter-by-parameter tuning operations. The effectiveness of this method is confirmed experimentally in 128 Gb/s 16QAM polarization-division-multiplexing (PDM) coherent optical transmission systems. The results illustrate that our proposed AKF has a better tracking accuracy and a faster convergence (about 4 times quicker) compared to a conventional algorithm with optimal process noise covariance.

The influence of the nonlinear propagation effect on three 400 Gb/s/ch (400G) optical fiber communication systems with typical modulation formats, dual-carrier 16-quadrature amplitude modulation (16QAM), single-carrier 16QAM (single-16QAM), and four-carrier quadrature phase-shift keying, are investigated. The received optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR), affected by the nonlinear interference noise together with the amplified spontaneous emission noise, are compared with three 400G systems and a standard 100 Gb/s/ch system by numerical simulations. Both single channel and multichannel cases are considered. Single-16QAM is found to have the best OSNR among those modulation formats.
