在带内全双工(IBFD)多输入多输出(MIMO)通信系统中,通道间串扰、非线性失真及多径效应的共同作用使自干扰信号异常复杂。为在大带宽应用场景下消除此复杂自干扰信号,提出一种由最小二乘(LS)算法辅助的MIMO非线性自干扰光域消除方案,并将其与数字域消除相结合。该方案对IBFD MIMO系统中的复杂自干扰信号进行建模,并利用LS算法对模型参数进行估计,进而重建出模拟参考信号并用于实现光域模拟自干扰消除。此外,通过设置门限,在保证模拟消除深度的情况下忽略自干扰信号中功率较低的分量来降低LS算法阶数,提高参考重建速度。经实验验证,当MIMO多径自干扰信号的载波频率和波特率分别为1 GHz和0.5 Gbaud时,所提方案经过光域模拟和数字域自干扰消除后,可实现约35 dB的自干扰消除深度。

提出了一种基于非均匀光频梳的多频率瞬时信号检测方案。以功率非均匀下降的光频梳功率比为参照,利用待测信号与光频梳的拍频功率比确定信号的频率范围,再由解调后的频率信息计算待测信号的精确频率。仿真实现了0~20 GHz范围内多频信号的瞬时测量,误差范围为0~23 MHz。此外,分析了激光器线宽、光纤布拉格光栅中心频率、调制器偏置电压和光混频器相差对测量结果的影响。结果显示:该系统对激光器线宽和混频器相差的改变不敏感,光纤布拉格光栅中心频率和调制器偏置电压会影响光频梳信号的功率比;当功率比区分度较大时,系统稳定性更高,误差更小。

微波光子和光通信等应用对多波长高相干的光载波有巨大需求。针对传统方案中载波频差与噪声难以兼顾的瓶颈,本文介绍了基于共振泵浦的多波长共腔受激布里渊散射(SBS)激光技术。得益于共腔的激射结构、灵活的泵浦选择以及SBS对激光线宽的压窄效应,该技术在生成频差可控、频相高相关的低噪光载波方面具有显著优势。本文结合已有和最新实验结果,演示并验证了该技术在稳频低噪太赫兹载波生成、高速太赫兹通信、高效相干光通信等领域特定场景下的应用潜力。

提出了一种基于偏振延时干涉的瞬时频率测量(IFM)系统。通过检测两路正交偏振信号的光功率,建立了振幅比较函数(ACF)。计算结果表明,ACF仅与待测微波信号频率以及利用保偏光纤(PMF)双折射效应引入的时延差有关,并且调节时延差可实现ACF测量范围及精度的可调谐。仿真结果表明,频率范围为0~25 GHz的IFM系统的绝对误差容限为300 MHz。此外,讨论了激光器波长漂移、射频信号强度、马赫-曾德尔调制器(MZM)的偏置电压漂移、MZM消光比、偏振控制器2(PC2)偏振角漂移对系统测量频率的影响。与同类方法相比,所提方案中采用了PMF和偏振分束一体化结构,在实现频率范围可调的同时,简化了系统结构并降低了成本。

Space-division multiplexing (SDM) has attracted significant attention in recent years because larger transmission capacity is enabled by more degrees of freedom (DOFs) in few-mode fibers (FMFs) compared with single-mode fibers (SMFs). To transmit independent information on spatial modes without or with minor digital signal processing (DSP), weakly-coupled FMFs are preferred in various applications. Several cases with different use of spatial DOFs in weakly-coupled FMFs are demonstrated in this work, including single-mode or mode-group-multiplexed transmission, and spatial DOFs combined with time or frequency DOF to improve the system performance.

A pre-coding-assisted power detection scheme for radio over fiber downlink is presented. This scheme can eliminate laser phase noise while avoiding high energy-consuming electrical carrier required in conventional power and/or envelope detection schemes. Theoretical analysis and experimental verification are performed. 0.625 Gbaud pre-coded quadrature phase-shift keying or 16 quadrature amplitude modulation signals can both be recovered by power detection without electrical carrier assistance at the receiver after 75 km fiber transmission. Not only robust against the laser phase noise, an improvement of about 5 dB in receiver sensitivity can also be achieved, as compared with the conventional power detection scheme.

A complex-coefficient microwave photonic filter with continuous tunability is proposed and demonstrated, which has a compact structure and stable performance without splitting the optical path and tuning the polarization state. By only controlling the DC biases of the modulator, the amplitudes and the phases of the filter taps can both be tuned. The phase difference between the two filter taps covers a full 360° range from 10 GHz to 32 GHz. Frequency responses of the proposed filter are measured within 10–20 GHz with different center frequencies.

We have projected and verified a bidirectional intra-/inter-radio-access-technology carrier-aggregation method for a next-generation heterogeneous mobile network supported by filter bank multicarrier (FBMC). Successful transmission of intra/inter-band carrier aggregation between five broadband FBMC signals and three bands 4G long-term-evolution-advanced signal over 50 km single-mode fiber plus 10 m free-space is successfully broadcasted by employing an incoherent light-injection scheme in downlink. In uplink, two intra-bands carrier-aggregated wireless local area network Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers 802.11g signal is carried over the equal distance. High receiver sensitivity, low error vector magnitude, and clear constellation diagrams show successful delivery of different wireless services for different consumers. Therefore, the proposed hybrid system should become a potential solution for a future mobile front-haul network because of its low latency and high capacity.

We propose a general guideline on the design of a stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS)-based microwave photonic filter (MPF) using a directly modulated pump. Filter gain profiles and passband ripples with waveform repetition periods of the driving current ranging from 2 to 100 ns are measured after the transmission of different fiber lengths. The results show that the filter performance has nothing to do with the fiber length, and the digital-to-analog converter bandwidth requirement for the driving current is no more than 500 MHz. Therefore, the low cost, flexible reconfiguration, and miniaturization characteristics make an SBS filter using a directly modulated pump a promising choice as an MPF.

This Letter investigates the impact of the photodiode (PD) saturation in a sub-sampled photonic analog-to-digital converter (PADC) with two individual pulse lasers. It is essentially proved that when the optical power to the saturated PD increases, the optical–electrical conversion (OEC) responsivity and digitized output power of the PADC decrease. If femtosecond pulses are employed for the PADC sampling clock, the time-stretching process in a dispersive medium is necessary to decrease the impact of the PD saturation. In contrast, when the sampling clock with picosecond pulses is utilized, the PD saturation is more tolerable, and thus, the OEC responsivity can be improved by an increase of the optical power to the PD no matter if the time-stretching process is employed.
